A LACK OF DESIGN.
I'm a programmer, not completely lacking in aesthetics, but I do tend towards minimalism, function over form and legibility. I'm especially fond of Peter Saville's work, and I've based this design around his first poster for Factory Records, Fac1. He did this work in 1978 and I think it still resonates deeply today.
Neurosises
The neurotic in me obsesses over the width of line and the fonts in his design, but I've resigned myself to this approximation, however flawed. I've used javascript to animate the background as a way to cut into the severness of the yellow, I wanted the page to literally glow out of the screen, and I think it does a good job of drawing the eye towards the page content. The button animations at the bottom of the page are pure indulgance, sliding in and out like a machine.
Code here is formatted with pygments rather excellently, and it hooks straight into django with a custom template tag.
Over designed?
On viewing the page sans javascript I come to an impasse, is it better without the color? Better without design?
